Doppelganger self portraits by Cornelia Hediger

Cornelia Hediger

New York photographer Cornelia Hediger was born in Zurich, Switzerland and educated at Rutgers University. Her works are exhibited internationally, and she is among the Photo District News‘ 30 New & Emerging Artists to Watch, 2009. Doppelgänger means "double walker", an apparition or the ghostly double of a living person. It is a sinister being whose presence foretells bad luck and even death. This idea of an ominous double became my muse and I started to immerse myself in the literature of the subject while creating images photographically. Writer Adam Harrison Levy describes her use of six distinct photographs assembled into one overall image and her exploration of personal space in the photographs.

Black and White Street Photography by Matteo Alvazzi

Matteo Alvazzi

Matteo Alvazzi is a self-taught photographer. He started shooting in 2009 with a Nikon D90 DSLR, and then moved to film with a Leica M6 on January 2010. Street Photography is something he fell in love with as soon as he saw it. Walking around streets, freezing moments forever, is something that gives him peace and confidence. It changed the way he perceives everything, with and without a camera in his hands.

A Life in Levitation by Natsumi Hayashi

Natsumi Hayashi

Natsumi Hayashi is a sweet-looking Japanese girl who, one day, decided to take self-portraits..of herself levitating. The surreal scenes are achieved by setting up her SLR camera and waiting for the perfect time to jump. The photos which are taken at exactly the right moment show Natsumi simply levitating in her surroundings. Natsumi hopes that these photos can act as a form of release for when people are having stressful days.
